The Upper Town Hall of the Rathaus

The Upper Town Hall

It is simply called the Obere Rathaushalle (Upper Hall). This understated name conceals the fact that this is in fact one of Bremen's most beautiful, most representative halls.

For centuries, the rulers of the city convened here. Decisions were made contracts concluded, court was held and representatives from foreign countries received.

Today, the hall with a length of 41 meters, a width of 15 meters and a height of eight meters, is used for festive events, receptions and concerts.

Four splendid models of warships hang suspended from the ceiling. The ornate portals lead into adjoining rooms.

Two large frescos decorate the north wall, Solomon's Judgement and The Founding of Bremen.

Certainly the greatest attraction is the Golden Chamber (Güldenkammer) - one of the few remaining complete works of Art Nouveau design.
