An impressive fresco (presumably by Bartholomäus Bruyn the Elder in 1532) depicting the Old Testament story of Solomon's Judgement adorns an extensive area of the north wall in the Obere Rathaushalle.
Symbolically, the fresco cautions the city fathers to be as wise as Solomon in their judgements and decisions. The wall painting has been restored several times.
The original version of the story may be found in the Old Testament, First Book of the Kings, verses 16 through 28.
